MAURY ISLAND, VASHON, WA — I went for my first run on the island this evening and it was about as glorious as I expected. In half a mile I can reach a lookout onto Mount Rainier and the Cascades and can run the winding (and steep) trails below. Keep on going down slow slopes and there’s the Seattle skyline and the peaceful Puget Sound. I was serenaded by a bagpiper on a farm, a deer ran out in front of me and a flock of geese in V-formation flew overhead as I was rounding the curve back home. It’s moments like this that make every fear and “What am I even doing here?” doubt about traveling worth it.
Also: Did you ever realize Mount Rainier could be like rain-ier? Because I just did, LOL.
